|My own stand-by recipe that I have used for years and same recipe that my mother used. (got recipe from her)|
List of Ingredients
|4 1/2 cups lukewarm water|
6 Tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. salt
2 pkgs. yeast
4 Tbsp. lard ( I now use Crisco)
3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
Take 1 cup water and dissolve yeast along with 1 T. sugar.
Put remaining water in large mixing bowl
Stir in sugar and salt
Stir in yeast and lard (Crisco)
Stir in flour as much as you can
Knead the rest in
Place in greased bowl, cover and place in warm place
Rise for 2 hours
Punch down and raise for another 30 min.
Form into loaves and placed in greased pans.
Cover, let rise for 1 hour
Bake in preheated 350 deg. oven for 35-40 minutes or until brown and sounds hollow when tapped on it.
Remove from pans and Cool on wire racks
Cooking Time & Temperature
|350 degrees F for 35-40 min|
